Fringe 2023 – The Answer is Fringe!

Holy Trinity is pleased to partner with the Fringe again this year, and have the following productions and creators at our stages!

  • The Sanctuary Stage
    • Glorious Justice –  The Glorious Justice rock opera is the epic story of evil overlords of enslaved people engaged in battles of elemental proportion. The humans under the yoke of their cruel supernatural masters find the power within themselves to rise up and overthrow their Draconian masters in the hope of freedom and a brighter future. Lord of the Rings meets American Revolution.
    • Pop Goes the Opera – Step into the Haunting world of Il Tabarro’, an operatic masterpiece that intertwines love, betrayal and tragedy. Experience the passionate performances, mesmerizing arias and gripping storyline of this riveting, rarely-seen one-act Puccini opera, sure to captivate your senses and leave you breathless.
    • Il Duo– After breaking up and going their separate ways, Il Duo have reunited. Will old wounds be healed? Will memories of past pains be forgotten? Will Clint’s funny-guy routine continue to upset Ron’s straight man? Come see this musical variety show and be reunited with your favourite fringe duo!
    • Underdog Theatre Company – It’s time for the Prince to be married, but no one can pass the Queen’s tests! Which Princess will succeed and live happily ever after? THE PRINCESS AND THE PEA is a humorous, musical magical show for all ages!
    • Kelly Finnegan ProductionsDonating Sperm to My Sister’s WifeA comedy based on a true story from stand-up comedian and Kentucky Hillbilly Liberal Stewart Huff.   CBC described Stewart as “Willie Nelson meets George Carlin”. The Orlando Sentinel said “Best Comedy Show of the Fringe”. The Edmonton Journal gave the show 5 stars saying “This show deserves all 5 stars!”
    • Monster Theatre- The Fool– A dim-witted medieval simpleton is unwittingly named the King’s new Court Fool. Hilarity ensues. Sometimes it takes a FOOL to tell the truth.

    • Foote in the Door ProductionsThe Marvelous Wonderettes ’58 – Caps and Gowns! The marvellous Wonderettes are back with Caps and Gowns’58, the sequel to the production hailed as Colin Maclean’s favourite Fringe musical of 2019! With infectious energy and captivating harmonies, this musical transports you to a world of nostalgia, friendship and memorable hits. Join the Wonderettes for a toe-tapping, heartwarming celebration.
    • Still Your FriendThe Life Henri Show Cancelled.
    • Amica Hunter Anatomica Multi-award-winning performer Amica Hunter GETS UNDER YOUR SKIN and CRUSHES YOUR FUNNY BONE in this hilarious, captivating, and sometimes-unsettling comedy that celebrates the absurdity of being trapped in a body limited by pain, fatigue, and ultimately decay. Through stand-up, storytelling, and physical comedy, Amica reviews the three skeletal systems found in earthly organisms and the limitations of each one.
    • Susan FreedmanOldish -Pick Of The Fringe in Vancouver and Nanaimo. OLD-ish, Susan’s fifth one-woman comedy, is about ageing and death… only WAY funnier! Love, connections and laughter are the keys to ageing happily –  and even though there IT is – lurking around the corner, Susan is having a great time and she takes us along for the ride.

    • ira cooper, Spec TheatreEverything is Super Wow is a foot-fueled, slapstick tragedy about bikepacking, dreaming big and giving up in your 30s. Follow #mrcoffeehead’s kinetic solo show filled with original music, peppy puppets and awkwardly captivating body gyrations.

  • The Cool Air Rentals Stage
    • Batrabbit Productions Rat Academy -Do you like rats? Good. Come along with Fingers and Shrimp, the last rats in Alberta, and learn how they survive in a world that hates them. Inspired by Alberta’s famous 1950s anti-rat propaganda and mentored by Mump and Smoot, this physical comedy duo will have you clutching your tail.
      • “Hi we R the last two rats from Edmanton Together! WE made a show for u people. pls. come. learn how 2 rat with US…U will not hate it. Pls. come. We have cheese.”
    • Prairie StrangeTrain One to Coal Valley – In a crowded engine cab, two railroaders follow the signals propelling them toward the Coal Valley Mine. Constrained by the steady sound of a locomotive and an inevitable long trip home, William and Richard pit their masculinities against each other and reckon with a marriage that units death and discovery.
    • Jem Rolls- MAXIMUM CRUSOE– Unique true pandemic story of comedy and not. Two long lockdown years stranded on a remote holy paradise Indian beach. “Master storyteller” Broadway World 2023

Fringe Theatre at Holy Trinity
Holy Trinity is a registered Bring Your Own Venue (BYOV) with the Edmonton Fringe Theatre Festival. Located only two blocks from the Fringe Theatre Office and Fringe Central, Holy Trinity is a highly sought BYOV for a variety of performers.

In addition to housing three unique stages (listed below), Holy Trinity also gets into the Fringe spirit in the following ways:

  • Trinity Tea Room: The Tea Room offers tea and delicious, freshly-baked scones. The Tea Room is open Friday, August 18 2023 through Sunday, August 27 2023, 1:00 to 5:00PM.
  • Trinity Cheer Tent: In the early afternoon, the Cheer Tent opens for business. The Cheer Tent features a concession with wine, beer, and all sorts of sweet treats! Please come on by for a visit with new and old friends, or have a drink while waiting for doors to open.

The Stages at Holy Trinity

  • The Sanctuary Stage (Sanctuary): Our Sanctuary stage has a seating capacity of 225. The entrance for this venue is through the Main Doors on the West side of the building. This venue is fully accessible.
  • de Villars Jones LLP Stage (Lower Hall): Our Lower Hall stage, sponsored by de Villars Jones LLP, has a seating capacity of 150. The entrance for this venue is through the Garden Door with an accessible entrance available through the Main Doors (lift available).
  • Cool Air Rentals Stage (Upper Hall): Our Upper Hall stage, sponsored by Cool Air Rentals, has a capacity of 155. The entrance for this venue is through the south-side Garden door. Unfortunately due to the stairs up to the door, this venue is not wheelchair accessible.

Tickets
Fringe tickets must be purchased online through the Fringe Festival website. Fringe regulations state that there are no refunds, no exchanges, no late entry, and no re-entry.

Volunteer Information

Front of House Volunteers

  • FOH put in shows
  • Keep grounds tidy
  • Fill in where needed – supervised by FOH manager

Concession Volunteers

  • Sell drinks and snacks and able to use square.
  • Must be one person with ProServe on each shift, anyone without ProServe cannot handle alcohol or money for it.
  • No drinking of alcohol while on shift.
  • Take all empties to pantry at end of shift, take away all garbage at end of shift.
  • Last shift takes away remaining empties, turns off lights and locks up bar, etc.
  • Shifts overlap so new people coming on shift replenish concession items.
  • Id those who look under 25 and watch for excessive consumption.
