Speaker Series is back this Fall! The first date will be Saturday, September 11 at 1:00PM (note a different time than usual). We are pleased to have Nathan Kowalsky bringing the talk this month - "The Hobbit and the Barnyard Picture of the World".
Nathan Kowalsky (PhD Katholieke Universiteit Leuven) is an associate professor of philosophy at St. Joseph’s College, University of Alberta, Canada. His main areas of research are environmental philosophy, philosophy of religion, and philosophy of culture. Specifically, his interests lie in the interrelationships between wildness, non-agrarian hermeneutics, evil, divine alterity, and critiques of modern technology. He is still plugging away at a collection of short essays (or is it a textbook?) on the unusual studies of science and technology in society (STS), and should probably get around to writing his overdue book on natural evil before too long. He is the editor of Hunting—Philosophy for Everyone: In Search of the Wild Life (Wiley, 2010) and editor-in-chief of the environmental humanities journal the Trumpeter.
