A Welcome to Our New Rector

Our new, permanent, full-time rector, Chris Pappas, will be moving to Edmonton in early August and plans to conduct his first service at Holy Trinity on August 15. The Annual General Meeting originally scheduled for June, has been postponed until September 19th. It is appropriate that we hold the meeting when Rev. Pappas, our new rector, has arrived.

The Second Century at Holy Trinity Church: Preserving the Past and Assuring the Future

Vestry has approved a project that will assist parishioners in the huge task of maintaining our treasured building. We have engaged a local architect, David Murray, to undertake a project that touches on many aspects of the church fabric, among them an inspection of the building, inside and out, for problems down the road; identification of the historic elements, inside and out; displaying archival material; and setting up committees and procedures by which the congregation can plan ahead, make decisions, keep records, and communicate with Historical Resources and other funding organizations. The project touches on everything from planning to paint chips, from wires to windows. David has worked over the years on many of the buildings in Old Strathcona, including Holy Trinity, and is well-qualified for the project. The project will be paid for from a bequest designated for the maintenance of the building. We expect to recover half of the cost from provincial Historical Resources. An outline of the project will be posted in the Upper Hall. For further details, see Frank Burgess or Andrea Hamilton.

Lower Hall

There are plans to make the Lower Hall more accommodating to the people who put on theatrical productions there (during the Fringe and at other times) by hanging three supporting bars from the ceiling. These bars would be steel, painted white, about as big around as the business end of a baseball bat, and each of the three would span from one of the north pillars to one of the south pillars, hanging about a foot down from the ceiling. The bars would support electrical cabling, and spotlights could be attached to them in setting up for a show. If anyone can foresee any problems this installation might cause in the future, please contact Frank Burgess or Harold Taylor.

Summer Yoga Friday mornings only July 16-Aug. 27:

All levels are welcome; 7 weeks for $70.00 or $12 for drop-in. If you would like more information please contact Sara Wright at (780) 431-0062.
