Refresh your senses and satisfy your sweet tooth with these classic carnival treats. We start with fresh melodies, juicy tonalities, and mix in a little string quartet. Try the triple scoop Mozart cup; one sugar dusted Divertissement for read trio, one salty Sonata in Bb for bassoon and cello, and one deep fried and delicious Quartet for oboe and strings. Need something more substantial? We’ve also got the caramel coated Clarinet Quintet by Carl Maria von Weber and a Sextet on a stick for winds and strings by Gustav Holst. It’s perfect for sharing.
Over the past nine years WindRose Trio has self-produced recitals featuring the most demanding music in the repertoire. Our concert repertoire includes works by Martinu, Canteloube, Francaix, and Villa-Lobos. The music is often complex and requires months of preparation.
Our playing has inspired many local composers to write new works for us, including Joseph Lai, Roger Deegan, John McPherson, Alissa Cheung, Thom Golub, and Charles Stolte.
Our CD “Path of Contact” was recorded in 2008 with support from the AFA and received a Western Canadian Music Award for Best Classical Recording. It features music by Villa-Lobos, Peter Schikele, Violet Archer, and Roger Deegan and continues to receive radio air-play.
Past performance highlights include the Roger Deegan Tribute Concert (2006), Music at Convocation Hall (2008), Arts on the Ave Bloomin’ Garden Show (2008), Kaleido Fest (2008, 2010), and Deep Freeze Fest (2009), Music with the Moravians (2009), and the Tonus Vivus 25th Anniversary Gala (2010), the St Albert Chamber Music Series (2011), and the University of Alberta Faculty Recital Series (2001).
