Ascension Day

“Go and make disciples of all nations, says the Lord; I am with you always, to the close of the age.”

Ascension Day is a major feast in the Christian Church that celebrates and marks the fortieth day of Easter, when Jesus bodily ascended into heaven from the Mount of Olives.  The celebration of this feast traces its roots prior to the 5th century at least, as Augustine refers to it as having Apostolic origin in his 4th century writings.  The 4th century Cappodocian Father Gregory of Nyssa and Bishop of Constantinople, John Chrysostom also mention it in their writings.  It has been referred to as one of the earliest of Christian festivals, dating to as early as 68 CE.

Join us this Thursday, May 17, 2012 for a potluck meal at 6 PM followed by an Ascension Day service at 7 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church.  The worship will follow a Celtic-style liturgy received from the Iona community with music provided by Roots singer/ songwriter Alana Levandoski.  This event is a joint event between Holy Trinity Anglican and Trinity Lutheran Churches.
