This year marks the 100 anniversary of the end of WWI – Nov. 11, 1918. In Remembrance, taking place the day before Remembrance Day, seeks to recognize and honor this momentous anniversary. The program has been curated by guest conductor Stuart Sladden. Some of the repertoire is related directly to WWI— like In Flanders Fields, Peace (the text was found on a war memorial in London), and Ode to Death (Holst’s way to lament the deaths of his friends and the soldiers during WWI). Others, like Ubi Caritas and Prayer of St. Francis, are reminders of the peace. There will come Soft Rains juxtaposes the sadness of war against the hope and resilience of Spring. Finally, our program will conclude with Requiem by Eleanor Daley.
