7:00 pm: Advent Bible Study

November 1, 2022

LET'S VENT ABOUT ADVENT!

Have you ever noticed that the readings for Advent don't seem to really, at least at initial glance, fit the theme of Advent? Have you ever noticed that they don't seem very anticipatory, celebratory, or even, sometimes, preparatory? Join Rev. Danielle on Zoom for four Tuesday evenings at 7pm as we read and discuss our Old and New Testament readings for Advent! All that's required is YOU and your favourite Bible - the more translations the merrier!

November 1 - Isaiah 2:1-5 and Romans 13:11-14
November 8 - Isaiah 11:1-10 and Romans 15:4-13
November 15 - Isaiah 35:1-10 and James 5:7-10
November 29 - Isaiah 7:10-16 and Romans 1:1-7
*Please note the one week break on November 22 as Rev. Danielle is taking a week for holidays*

For the Zoom link information, please contact the church office.

10:30 am: Bible Study: 1 Corinthians

November 2, 2022

Paul’s First Letter to the Church in Corinth deals with a variety of issues in the church, pertinent in both Paul’s time and ours. Participants will be asked to read a section of the letter before each session, and then discuss questions arising from the week’s selection in the group. This study will help give an appreciation for the struggles of the very earliest church, and how many of them continue to be issues 20 centuries later. 12 Wednesdays, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM, beginning September 21. A detailed study guide is available through the church office.

10:00 am: Saturday Discussion Group

November 5, 2022

The purpose of this discussion group is to discuss some fundamental concepts in biblical history and in church traditions with an eye to exploring their implications, especially in light of contemporary problems, priorities, and events. Coffee, tea, and snacks will be provided.

The first three topics for the group are: "Following the Law: A Matter of Life and Death", "Substitutionary Atonement: How should we think about the doctrine that Jesus died for our sins and for the sin of the world?", and "Apostolic Succession". Additional topics will be determined after this.
