Prayers for Burundi
Prayers for Burundi
Please continue to pray for Bishop Sixbert Macumi and our brothers and sisters in Buyé diocese. There is political unrest in Burundi as the country prepares for a presidential election on June 26.
Burundi has been in the news recently because of some unrest that has occurred in connection with the upcoming national elections. There is a legal dispute about whether the president, Pierre Nkurunziza, is eligible to run for re-election.
Violence is always cause for concern, but it important to remember that in a new democracy like Burundi, parties may attempt to attract international attention in order to further their own objectives.
Our partner Diocese of Buyé has asked us to pray for a peaceful resolution of the situation. The following prayer would be appropriate:
Lord, keep the nation of Burundi under your care. Bless its leaders, that the people of Burundi may be at peace among themselves and a blessing to other nations of the earth. Help them elect trustworthy leaders, contribute to wise decisions for the general welfare, and thus serve you faithfully in their generation to the honour of your holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
