Art Show Opening: Beauty in Ageing

Please join us on Saturday, February 29th in the Trinity Gallery (Upper Hall) for an art show opening, featuring the work of Mary Whale. The opening reception will run from 7:00 to 9:00PM, but the artist will be giving a talk at 7:30PM. We invite you to join us for all or part of this exciting event.

“How we SEE ourselves ageing is a complex mindset that starts in youth. It is influenced by many things. A Chinese proverb says that we naturally see the beauty of youth, but we must learn to see the beauty of age. Historically, artists have been fascinated by ageing. Their role is to observe and render aspects of the lived experience that can then be examined throughout time to make meaning. This interactive talk (30-45 minutes) will explore ageism, the ageing aesthetic and how art (in it’s many forms) could facilitate new meanings for ageing that would enrich our diversity as does race and religion rather than contribute to yet another unconscious bias that is ageism.”
