ATLAS THEATRE presents “2 ACROSS”

By Jerry Mayer

One of Edmonton’s newest independent theatre companies is staging writer Jerry Mayer’s (M.A.S.H., The Bob Newhart Show) delightful comedy of romance and crossword puzzles, “2 ACROSS”, at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church’s Lower Hall Theatre. Two unlikely companions battle wits and the New York Times Saturday crossword during an early morning ride on board a San Francisco commuter train in this warm, funny play full of joyous wordplay and heartfelt moments.

Janet (played by local favourite Kate Ryan) is a tightly buttoned professional, while Josh (Atlas Theatre regular James Hamilton) is a laid back and charming, but perpetually unemployed “Dude”. During the 90 minute ride from the Airport to the last top in East Bay, the train wheels aren’t the only things making sparks as the pair discover that, much to their surprise, they may just be perfect for one another.

ATLAS THEATRE artistic director Julien Arnold is the conductor of this charming comic train, Chris Nelson stage manages, and sound designer Paul Morgan Donald provides the atmosphere.

Tickets are $15 and $13 and are available at the door, or you can make reservations by calling Atlas Theatre at 780-437-2891.

The play runs at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church Lower Hall Theatre (10037-84 Ave.) every night except Monday at 8PM, January 18 to 27.
